I actually enjoyed Mother’s Instinct (2024) starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain. I think the simplest recommendation is to watch the trailer — it’s pretty accurate to the feel of the movie. But it takes longer to build up the tension than trailer of course. If it piques your interest I think you’ll be entertained. Does it have a Good Ending? Oh… it’s not that type of movie, dear!

7/10 — Above average I think. Enjoyed it. But not life changing.

Watched 19:30–25 03 2024 — Public preview showing.

I hadn’t heard anything about this movie — not that I could recall anyway. So this came as a pleasant surprise when Ihad an unexpected evening free and checked out what was showing in my local cinema. I watched the trailer, was intrigued and just went for it.

I’ve been a fan of Anne Hathaway for a long time. She’s a great actress. And Jessica Chastain I knew was a good actress too. They couldn’t let me down? That solidified the choice for me.

Summary
Two mothers. Friends. They live right next to each other with their husbands and sons. One day, home sick from school, one of the sons is trying to move a bird box from an upstairs balcony railing. The other mother sees this and urges him to come down. He can’t hear her or doesn’t listen. She rushes round, where his mother is vacumming and doesn’t hear. She runs up stairs to bring him down from the railing. Too late. He has fallen.

Admist the grief, suspicions arise. More suspicious things happen. But these women aren’t perfect… perhaps its just a misunderstanding? Surely it is? They can reconcile? Can’t they? Oh dear…

I’m still thinking about that damn ending a week later. But maybe that’s because I took a week to post this?

See ya :)
